Westchester Passes Harckham Recycling Law
Starting in June, Westchester County will recycle all plastics with recycling numbers 1 through 7. Previously the County only recycled plastics numbered 1 and 2. The revenue to the County from the sale of the increase in plastics recycling is estimated to be $6 million. The legislation, sponsored by Legislator Peter Harckham, enjoyed bipartisan support and passed through the Board of Legislators unanimously. Said Harckham, “this is good public policy that will drive revenue to the county, help to decrease our dependence on foreign oil and reduce our carbon footprint.”
